Nothing really special ABOUT ME

Cloyd Winstanley

Born on November 30, 1973 in Dangcagan, Bukidnon, he lived in Cagayan de Oro City most of his life.

He took Nursing and Mass Communication with only a semester shy from graduation when he could no longer afford to take himself to school. He has been a Radio DJ since 1992 until 2004. (His interest in DJing started when he became a DJ mixing competition champion in 1988 at age 16, he first became a club DJ using vinyl). He became a Theater actor in 1997 and also acted on local television in 2001. He attempted showbiz in Manila intermittently (mostly bit roles in sitcoms and independent films) since 1999 until he gave up in 2005 when he suffered from depression upon leaving the radio scene.

He ventured in the call center business in 2005 and was hired as an American Accent Trainer in SYKES Asia and in Concentrix CDO (Formerly Link2Supprt) until 2009 (He worked in Convergys Cebu prior to SYKES). He became a free agent since then. In 2009, he co-hosted a Canadian travel show called 10,000 Islands and More shot in different places in the Philippines.

Since his Acting stint in 2001, he became interested in film making. He wrote and directed his first independent film in 2002 which to date is the uncontested “first ever indie film in Cagayan de Oro City”. Since then he made several independent films, documentaries, AVP’s, voice-overs, radio and TV commercials and jingles. He also acted in Theater, in an NCCA film and directed stage plays including the Musical “Wicked” in 2013. As an advertising expert, he also served as creative head for Advertising agencies like AVMac and Brand Aid. He also hosts all kinds of events and occasionally conducts basic Film making, Cinematography and Acting  seminars to high school and College students.

Personal Life

He is a single father to his son, River Phoenix (b. 2006, named after his late favorite actor) who is diagnosed with mild ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). He also has a daughter named Kristina Cloey Elena. His deceased father, Benedict Joseph Winstanley, former ABC president in Misamis Oriental was of British descent.

Religious Beliefs

Cloyd was born and raised Catholic and studied in Xavier University Grade School and High School, a Catholic School in Cagayan de Oro City. In 1996, he met his then girlfriend who is a Born Again Christian. After they split; and though he continued to embrace the “Born Again” teachings and doctrine and was water baptized several years later, he never renounced Catholicism. “It’s no use. I found out that being ‘Born Again’ is a prerequisite and not a religion. Every Christian who believes in the Bible should be ‘Born Again’. No Religion nor denomination should use this term out of context to lure people to renounce any Christian belief. To do so is pure Hypocrisy.”

Though Cloyd remains apathetic about politics, he has a rather radical belief and approach on Theology and Christianity. “Without any guilt, I literally pray and go to different Churches and denominations. If given the chance, I will pray and worship in a mosque. My eyes were opened to the truth when I studied and researched about the different doctrines and religion. I then realized that religion divides people therefore one should not belong to any religion at all. One should belong to God. One should belong to Christ.”
